Follow the Snail’s Trail

April 6, 2010

From The Snail’s Trail:

As a former professional Outdoor Educator, and as a natural lover of Mother Nature, I believe in teaching my kids to “Pack it in and pack it out.” On our last trail hike, we came upon what we believe was an old trash dump site. This was such a great opportunity to show my kids about the impact of littering and not taking care of our Earth, especially since they’ve been little litter bugs in their own backyard. If you would like to incorporate Leave No Trace into your nature study, or just want to teach your kids about stewardship, you can download a complete game and activity based program to use with your kids from the Boy Scouts at Teaching Leave No Trace. You can also contact your local REI store to learn more about the Promoting Environmental Awareness with Kids (PEAK) program and learn how you can get an REI backpack filled with Leave No Trace materials.
